about
The only track thus far released from my band before Sonic Youth, The Fluks (later, in NYC: The Flucts). Begun in Binghamton, NY 1977, moved to NYC 1979. The band played around NYC, including CBGBs and Max's Kansas City, and actually played a show or 2 with Thurston's band The Coachmen, which is how we met. This 1980 track was from the last version of the band, about a year before SY formed: myself on guitar, David Linton on drums, Stuart Somer on keyboards, Fred Riedel on guitar. This was recorded in our loft in downtown Brooklyn sometime in 1979 and released in 2004 on a UK music-zine called Comes With A Smile. Hopefully I'll be able to upload more tracks by the band in future...

Sonic Youth is one of those bands where you easily run out of superlatives to describe what they created. This could've easily come off as a cynical cash-grab by a band that had broken up 11 years prior to the release of this record, but that's not what this is. Some of my favourite Sonic Youth instrumentals. sentient meat
This experimental rock trio from Cornwall bring together cresting waves of dreamy guitar noise with a sense of propulsive motion. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 26, 2021

I was at this gig, and I recall being appalled by the incoherent noodling. Twenty years later, I realize I was just not listening. This is some of the best stuff SY ever put to tape. Toni Laakso
